Toyama Black Ramen

Toyama has a special pepper taste Ramen called Toyama Black, which is a Ramen “When Japan” particularly likes.

Some people complain of the taste, “When Japan” guesses because it is quite a strong pepper taste that some may find disagreeable. The trick is to adjust the strength of the pepper taste with additional pepper should you want it. Extra pepper will always be on hand.

Unfortunately there are few shops that serve this type of Ramen outside of Toyama. “When Japan” had a favorite in Asakusa however it shut down in 2018. There is a shop in Akihabara on the restaurant floor of Yodobashi Camera however it sucks. There is a rumor of a restaurant in Asakusa that serves Toyama Black on it’s menu, but “When Japan” has yet to confirm the taste.
